Design Team Leader
I have over 30 years of professional experience in graphic design and marketing. At art college, where it all began, I studied Graphic Design, which included airbrushing, painting, drawing, understanding shadows and light, and technical drawing. This was an era of drawing boards, paint, pens and pencils and where we had one Apple Mac between 30 of us, so you had to book slots, but I did learn all of the fundamentals.
When I completed my course after three years, I decided to find work in graphic design and quickly had a flair for desktop publishing, laying out brochures and magazines. This is where I learned about designing for print and print management, and how both design and print worked together. I brought this experience to S2F and for over 13 years I have learned about the power of marketing, using graphic design in both print and now digital forms, making output for a product campaign very powerful. My skills have broadened immensely from brochure design, campaigns, and wall art to exhibition design and logo creation. The more I do my job as a Graphic Designer, and the more channels I use to apply my design to, I realise that marketing is everywhere. It could be from radio, billboards, digital adverts, sponsorship at sporting events, to TV and magazine adverts. We are consumed by it, and I love it!
I have a great team around me and everyone is flexible in their skills and a pleasure to work with. There is a work hard culture, but always time for a laugh and catch-up. I enjoy the client variety and the range of work that brings, from branding a bag to designing and managing an exhibition stand, to large scale wall art and so on.
I love to keep fit by riding my bike, doing 20, 30 sometimes 60 miles, and I like to ride for charities so I can do my bit. I also love watches, timepieces in general. The precision and the mechanics of a watch fascinates me. Analogue watches are as popular today as they were in the early 1900s, despite the rise of the Smart Watch in recent years.
I have a love for the Greek islands. The food, culture and vibe of the islands, and it’s also where I met my wife!
I enjoy cooking and of course eating. Anything from a nice roast dinner to risotto… simple, tasty food.
I like the classics; B&W movies, atmospheric films with tension and twists. The films you talk about because of that one liner. Jaws is my favourite; the way it is filmed, the tension, camera angles, and yes that one liner… “bigger boat” etc.
